Strong Connections Virtual Teen Group
Colin, what is your role and where do you work?
I am the Newaygo County Prevention Program Coordinator for Arbor Circle.

Why did Arbor Circle create Strong Connections Teen Group?
We know how difficult everything is for everyone right now, and this is doubly true for teenagers. They are already going through one of the most challenging stages in their lives, full of topsy-turvy transitions, and now a global pandemic has been added on top of that. Furthermore, most of them can’t even see their friends anymore with the schools being all virtual, so they are deprived of those relationships that would have helped them through these tough times.
That’s why Arbor Circle set out to create this group. It will be an opportunity for teenagers to make connections with their peers and build some new relationships. It will also be a chance for them to discuss any mental health challenges they may be experiencing and to learn some important life skills that will help them to become more successful.
Who is the group for?
The group is for any teenager between the ages of 13 and 17 who might need a little more connection or support during this difficult time.
What types of topics will be talked about?
A variety of topics will be covered. A few examples are: managing stress and anxiety, self-care, building relationships, decision making, etc. The program is designed to empower teenagers with actionable skills that will increase their self-awareness, self-esteem, and self-efficacy (the belief that they can succeed).
When does the group take place and how long does it last?
Starting on January 12th, 2021, the group will take place virtually every Tuesday from 4 to 5pm on Zoom. Currently, we are looking at running the group from January up through May, 2021.
How does a teen sign up?
If a teen would like a flyer for more information or to sign up, they can call or text me at 616-278-4788 or email me at cmoylan@arborcircle.org.
